Last year, Colonia and John F. Kennedy’s hockey team merged together as one to become a stronger unit. On January 6, 2014, the newly minted team took on Central Regional High School (2-4-1) for the first home game of the season. The last time that Central Regional and Colonia High met, Colonia defeated Central 4-2, with big plays by Colonia, including plays from Tim Bizub (sophomore, forward), one of Colonia’s highest scorer.
The game started off very back and forth. Central Regional kept sending the puck down to Colonia’s territory, then the puck would be bounced back. It wasn’t until the middle of the first quarter where Central Regional really stepped up their game, scoring 3 goals on Colonia’s Goalie. Two goals were scored by Dylan Jenkins, while the other one was scored by Adam Leighton.
In the middle of the game, the game intensified; Colonia’s defense became stronger and held Central Regional from scoring. Central Regional scored once more in the second period; the goal was scored by Robby Wiatrowski.
Overall, the defense on Colonia was their downfall in the beginning. It wasn’t until the middle of the game that they stepped up their game. By then, the damage was done, and it was too late to come back. The overall score of the game ended to 4-0, Central Regional High School shutting out the Patriots.
After the game, Tim Bizub, one of Colonia’s highest scorers this year, stated, “I think we had the ability to beat them. We’ve done it before. It’s all a mental thing. We just have to go out there next game and try harder from the beginning.”
